DAY 2 – TUE. 28TH JULY
I was introduced to Mr. Boateng early the following morning. At his office, we got acquaintance with each other after which he briefly told me a short history about World Vision. He had said that Bob Pierce was the founder of WV and that WV was founded in 1950. He explained further that WV was established in 1979 in Ghana. However the goals and objectives of WV became relevant in 1983 when Ghana experienced great hunger and famine. He further explained that the SKC ADP office was established in 1998, supported by Taiwan.
He quickly briefed me about how they go about their Development Programs and the activities involved. He had said that by the end of my one week stay, I would come to understand better some of the things he had briefed me about. He however, expressed his concern about how short a week is for such a program. Mr. Boateng therefore suggested that the period should be extended the next time we have our community service so we can learn better and have a feel of what it takes to work with a non-profit organisation.
To start with, he made me understand that in a year, four census exercises are undertaken at each quarter at a three month interval as a way of updating information on the children, which is coordinated by the Children in Ministry-Sponsorship Operations. He said the SKC ADP has over 3049 children under their scholarship program. On the form given, I was supposed to indicate at a space provided A, B or C where
A: Child Present B: Temporarily Away C: Child record to be dropped
This was performed based on a summary report provided on a different form. I did this for the years 2008 and 2009. I was then taken through a picture gallery of some kids under the World Vision Development Program and a few of their sponsors.
