With all my gratitude

7th September, 2009.
Dear Friends,

I can't begin to express what your gift means to me and my other colleagues. This is just a quick note, but it comes from my heart to yours as I head out for my lectures.

The money is most definitely helpful and will go to extremely good use, there's no doubt about that. Thank you for your very kind gift, which I received on the 1st of September, 2009. Your generosity will make an immediate difference in my life and in the lives of my other colleagues.

For one thing, I am going to use your gift for the purpose for which it was meant so it can be of help to me and others. Your generosity is going to help me buy the books relevant to this semester’s courses taken and improve my standard of living as well. Good nutrition, as you know, is so vital in fighting off the diseases and infections that are so prevalent on our campus.

This time has been difficult for me especially at the early part of the semester when school just re-opened, but knowing I have the support of people like you certainly helps.

But more than the monetary value, I so greatly appreciate the thought behind the gift. A financial constraint is a burden but your actions have really lightened the load. For that especially, I thank you.

Please know I won't forget your kind gesture. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. Thanks again for your kindness.

Sincerely,
Bright Ofori

Community Service - Day 4

DAY 4 – 30TH JULY
We visited one of the communities where SKC ADP of WV-Ghana had a project. A nice school building was built here and I was so excited to see the kids happily playing around during their break time. Since they happened to be in their promotional term of the academic year, they deserved a party the following day when they would be vacating after a hard term’s work. The joy within them was clearly seen by the smiles on their faces. We took photographs of these kids after a short interaction with them.

Community Service - Day 3

Day 3 - Wed July 29
Mr. Boateng showed me child monitoring forms and how to fill them using information from the Census Summary Form which I previously worked on. This form had information on the Child’s Identification Number, Name, Community, Education, etc. Please find a copy of the monitoring form below:

He further explained to me that the monitoring forms are to be filled in duplicate so that whereas a copy is kept on the file of the child at school, another copy is also kept at the Customer Relations Office for external auditing and other uses as the need arises. Afterwards, I was given enough forms to record information on each child from the census summary form provided.

Community Service - Day 2

DAY 2 – TUE. 28TH JULY
I was introduced to Mr. Boateng early the following morning. At his office, we got acquaintance with each other after which he briefly told me a short history about World Vision. He had said that Bob Pierce was the founder of WV and that WV was founded in 1950. He explained further that WV was established in 1979 in Ghana. However the goals and objectives of WV became relevant in 1983 when Ghana experienced great hunger and famine. He further explained that the SKC ADP office was established in 1998, supported by Taiwan.

He quickly briefed me about how they go about their Development Programs and the activities involved. He had said that by the end of my one week stay, I would come to understand better some of the things he had briefed me about. He however, expressed his concern about how short a week is for such a program. Mr. Boateng therefore suggested that the period should be extended the next time we have our community service so we can learn better and have a feel of what it takes to work with a non-profit organisation.

To start with, he made me understand that in a year, four census exercises are undertaken at each quarter at a three month interval as a way of updating information on the children, which is coordinated by the Children in Ministry-Sponsorship Operations. He said the SKC ADP has over 3049 children under their scholarship program. On the form given, I was supposed to indicate at a space provided A, B or C where

A: Child Present B: Temporarily Away C: Child record to be dropped

This was performed based on a summary report provided on a different form. I did this for the years 2008 and 2009. I was then taken through a picture gallery of some kids under the World Vision Development Program and a few of their sponsors.

Community Service Report - Day 1

REPORT ON COMMUNITY SERVICE HELD AT THE SUHUM KRABOA COALTAR (SKC) ADP OF WORLD VISION-GHANA

FROM THE 27TH TO THE 31ST OF JULY, 2009

‘Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom’.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV)

DAY 1 – MON. 27TH JULY

At exactly 12:30 GMT, I arrived at the office of SKC ADP of World Vision-Ghana at Coaltar, a suburb of Suhum in the Eastern Region of Ghana. I was warmly welcomed by Mr. Reginald Darko, the Manager of the SKC ADP. After a few minutes of waiting at his office, arrangements were made for Miss Okyerewah, the Caterer to send me to my room. With her help, I was able to familiarise myself with the compound and other areas and facilities I might need in the course of my one-week stay.

At his office, we had acquaintance with each other. Mr. Darko explained that Mr. Kwabena Adjei-Boateng (the Customer Relations Office) was the one who would be taking me through the vigorous exercises involved in the community service throughout the week. I was then introduced briefly to a few of the staff present and that ended it for the day.
